About the Plaster Paintings

 

I create the composition for the plaster paintings first with a layered collage.  After the composition is worked out, I build a frame around the collage base, and pour plaster over the surface.  When the plaster has set up, I separate the base from the plaster slab and then I have a white plaster surface to paint with oil on.

 

The series, Under the Rug, includes 14 oil on plaster paintings, all 20x20" framed. The work was created in 2013-14 and was first shown at Corners Gallery in Ithaca, NY.  An exhibition catalog with the text that corresponds to the paintings is available available through Lulu.
