The Story of Two Shapes

 

For a sketchbook project in 2025, I developed 50 ink drawings of individual abstract forms, some quite complex in detail. Interesting, but something else was needed. So, I asked what would happen if the shapes were combined? I connected the shapes and experimented with variations such as enlarging and reducing, repeating, and adjusting value and contrast. I allowed the pattern of one shape to be the ground for another. New forms and patterns were born. For the sequence of images in this book, I chose two shapes to work with. All the elements in the compositions are variations of these shapes.
